Everyone remained silent after the computers had shut down; the only sound was Lucas’s labored breathing coming through the speakers. At that moment, the producer asked, "What are you doing there?" but the young man didn't answer. Michelle was startled to recognize the clothes he was wearing—the very same outfit Lucas had worn the day he disappeared. Yet, they soon realized that the man appearing on screen was one of the band's longest-standing members—someone who had shared rehearsals, tours, concerts, and countless nights with them. He knew every song and had been present for some of the most pivotal moments of their lives; however, he seemed not to recognize any of his bandmates, asking right then and there, "Who is Lucas?"
The producer was stunned; he recognized the voice, having last heard it seven years earlier on a recording the company had classified as lost material. Tomas asked the man, "What do you remember about October 17, 2019?" The young man replied in a low voice, "I remember a white room... someone was crying... I remember you telling me that if I signed, everything would go back to the way it was before." Finally, he added, "You were the one who closed the door." Michelle began to weep; she remembered nothing, yet he kept mentioning her more and more.
Everything changed when a red light flashed above the doorway and one of the doors finally began to open; yet, no one moved, for the computer screen was once again displaying an image of a white room. Lucas was there, and the man facing the camera was no longer hiding his face. That man turned out to be a former research director for the company—someone whose death had been confirmed seven years prior—but seeing him there now left everyone speechless. The man spoke immediately: "The project was never just about transferring memories; that was merely the first stage. The true research aimed to discover whether a consciousness could survive within another person's memories"—and at that moment, everyone finally understood.
The man displayed an old photograph taken inside the company facilities; it showed five people in white lab coats, a boy sitting in a chair, and the producer standing behind them all. Everyone turned to look at the producer; they recognized the boy as Lucas, and the face of the man standing beside him was identical to that of the team member still standing by the door. Michelle asked, "Why is there a photo of the two of you from so long ago?" A heated discussion ensued, during which Lucas added, "A few weeks ago, I started dreaming about a white room. In my dreams, there was a boy calling me by name—a boy who said he was afraid of being left alone."
On another screen, a new file appeared titled RESTORATION PROTOCOL: FINAL PHASE, along with a list of names: Michelle, the producer, Lucas, and a fourth name no one had ever seen before. Beside the name was a date of birth, and beneath it, a final line: SUBJECT 00: ORIGINAL MEMORY RECOVERED. At that moment, something happened: the other young man began to cry and looked at the producer, saying, "I died seven years ago." The lights flickered, and in the white room, the man everyone had believed dead rose from his chair, approached Lucas, and began to untie him. Then Lucas looked directly into the camera and uttered a sentence that brought Michelle to her knees: "The Lucas you’re looking for was never the one who disappeared. The real Lucas has been sitting in that room with you for seven years." But a voice from the other hallway—identical to Lucas’s—said, "No. I’m the one who’s been with you for seven years."
