For several days, the band kept working on choosing the songs that would represent them; the studio smelled of coffee, new strings, and sheet music. There, they practiced everything from heart-wrenching ballads to powerful riffs that made the walls shake. Each song was an experiment, a risk, a piece of themselves. Dani dared to try more complex percussion, Stewie played them on the drums, Michelle explored melodies that seemed impossible, and Lucas found new ways to make his drum tell stories.

Everything was flowing perfectly, and before they finished, a question began to echo loudly in everyone’s minds: where would the national band competition be held? “They haven’t said,” Lucas murmured, as he tuned his drum. “Will it be in a huge hall, a theater, a stadium?” Dani crossed her arms, trying to picture it. “Wherever it is, we have to be ready.” This isn’t just any competition. People are going to remember who we are.”

Then an idea popped into their heads, and they all looked at each other with a spark of mischief and strategy at the same time. “What if we go out onto the street?” Michelle suggested. “To watch people play, to feel the music outside our studio. That way we’ll know what moves us.”

The night was cold, but everyone walked with joy and realized that the sidewalks were filled with street performers, acoustic guitars, makeshift drum sets, singers with voices that gave you goosebumps, and groups dancing to the beat of their own rhythms.

Every corner was a lesson and something new to observe, listen to, and take invisible notes on, as if every sound were a map leading to what they wanted to create. Lucas stopped in front of a group playing percussion with buckets and cans; it caught his attention, since it was the first time he’d seen anything like it. Dani smiled and began tapping his feet to the beat. “That!” exclaimed Stewie, pointing to a young man playing a guitar with restrained passion. “That’s what we need: raw emotion.”

Michelle closed her eyes, letting the wind blend the sounds of the street with her own thoughts. “If we capture this, our music will be more than just a competition—it’ll be an experience. That walk gave them time to think: it doesn’t matter where the national competition is held; what matters is being ready to conquer any stage.”
