When I started penning down my thoughts in 2010 as a creative writer I had the major goal of being heard. I wasn’t expecting to reach a large audience. My initial goal was for my words to matter to someone, and while writing the opening paragraph of this post, it dawned on me that I might be that someone.
Writing these days have been more centred around my initial goal as a creator, which is expression. I am also grateful for the fact that it earns me money, no matter how little. I care less about that now, so I believe my thoughts are as true as they can be. This is the level I have been trying to reach as a creator ever since I started writing for money. I am still of the opinion that money perverts things and that is because as humans we are curruptabl and I have made my peace with that. My thirst for material can corrupt other aspects of my life I do not care about.
It is funny (and I am sort of making this up as I writing), how the title of this post is centred around the value of one’s voice/words. In what terms, I don’t know because I haven’t defined that yet in this post (as I said, I making this up as I write). It feels morally wrong to have a price tag on everything, nevertheless, I also believe people have the ability to define things how they see fit.
We all have different reasons for writing. For me, it is an art form I fell in love with and this relationship or love story has translated into so many positive things for me. I still believe that the most valuable human asset is a thought. They are intangible and private, and the process of sharing them fascinates me. I am currently in the comfort of my cousin’s room broadcasting my thoughts to a global community. It might seem trivial given how commonplace this is in today’s society but it is nothing short of magic. These seemingly short posts could be read thousands of years from now and people would derive meaning from them.
I often envision a meaningless world or future, where people live through the lens of the past, and pieces like this might be a reason why people have conversations in the future or even think. I believe I have a well-documented life on this blog (although scattered between other interests and pursuit) that might inspire someone.
It is often refreshing reading through my previous posts (on and off the chain) and having to relive or remember certain events of my life. It is a testament to my growth and a reason to smile sometimes. This is why having a price tag on my post is demoralising and a detriment to the art–the art of sharing because when I am thinking in terms of fiat/cryptocurrency I am letting other external factors dictate my creativity.
Perhaps, my words may never get to be anything to someone other than myself but that’s an outcome I can live with. I am not trying to change the world or anything. I just want to leave my footprint in the sands of time, whatever the future makes up of is totally fine.
As difficult as it can be in this terrain endeavour to write about the things you believe in and are passionate about, if you have that luxury (because it is a luxury). I recommend you introvert as much as possible and document these thoughts. Time spent on yourself is never a waste.
This wasn’t what I intended to write when I first started this piece. I just had to let my mind speak and it turned out great in the end.
