The Nigerian masses were sold a dream of a free and fair election by a corrupt government who have done nothing but disregard the rule of law (countless times) and plunge its people into poverty.

I must admit, I wanted to believe in the possibility of a better Nigeria. Frankly, the thought of leaving my homeland for greener pastures elsewhere doesn't appeal to me as it once did. I love my country. I love its rich culture, food and (obviously) its chaos. It is…familiar.

However, it's too great a sacrifice to remain here. It is my fear that we (as a country) are on the verge of catastrophic societal collapse and I have limited time to escape–to save myself and the people I love.

This election was my last hope of a possible chance for change. However, things aren't panning out as expected. It feels silly to have dreamt of such a possibility considering all we've been through as a country. It would have been an anomaly if things panned out right, but we all desperately needed something to hold on to…

I never used to think so much about Nigeria because it had little impact on my life as a creator earning my wage on the internet. Now that the case is reversed I despise this place even more. I hate it here because I am unwilling to play dirty to get ahead, to become what I am not.

"We go dey alright"

The silver lining for me is the fact that I believe in myself and my ability. I have the means to better my life and bring my dreams into fruition. That's not a luxury many people have and I am not taking it for granted. Whatever the case may be I will rise above the status quo. Cheers!
