Growing up, life was rough for my family and me. We faced numerous challenges, constantly praying and hoping for a brighter future. Being that my dad died so early when we were still small, it was tougher seeing my mom taking on the whole responsibility of training my siblings and me.
I know I have mentioned that as a growing-up child back then, I did a lot to make money and support my mom with my academic material. Then I watched some families doing things at ease, buying cars in the midst of our hardship, living in a well-furnished house with electronics to make life sweeter and more enjoyable, and eating more healthy food. All these I observed, and I promised myself to keep enduring that once I grow up, I will get a good job, demolish my father's house, and build a modern house for my mom, who suffered.
I also imagined living a soft life, having cars, having all manner of food stuff in bags in a store and beverages in cartons. The fantasy was much, and again, I was like, "Once I get married, my story will change; the days of managing are over." I had a lot of high hopes about my adulthood. I thought everything happens by default; that once I become an adult, I will just command the kind of life I want. I honestly thought that adulthood would come with default money, happiness, freedom, and the chance to really live life. Children and their innocent minds indeed.
But reality came knocking as I started getting mature and began to see what life is all about. The ups and downs, the challenges that come with life, which sometimes you can't control, and how we don't have everything we worked for or hoped for. Including strange sickness that comes and scatters finances, disappointment, failure, and rising and falling. Oh boy! I never knew it was like this, but it's fine.
I wouldn't say it has been totally bad for me as an adult, but so far, the reality has been real, and I am not where I thought I would be. I still see myself struggling to make ends meet with unforeseen challenges, but overall, I am super grateful for life because once there is life, there is hope for tomorrow, and yeah, life is a golden gift to humanity by our Creator.
