BEFORE REALITYY HIT, I THOUGHT ADULTHOOD WAS FREEDOM.__WK62
Before reality hit, I thought life was very simple.
When I was small in Anambra, I thought when you become adult, everything will be automatic. You will have money, you will have big house, you will travel, you will just be happy. I thought adulthood means freedom. No more school uniform, no more assignment, no more someone telling you to wash plates.
I remember I told my mother I want to be a doctor. I pictured myself in white coat, with stethoscope, everybody calling me "Doctor Chi". I thought by then I would have made it. I thought life was like Nollywood film — you suffer small then you blow.
Then reality came.
Reality came and showed me that adulthood is not freedom, adulthood is responsibility. Bills everywhere. NEPA bill, data, transport, food price going up every day. You finish school, no job. You apply and apply, they say you need 5 years experience. Even to eat three times a day now is luxury for many students.
I am not a doctor today. I am still figuring life out. And that is okay. I realized most of us are not where we thought we would be. Many of my friends wanted to be pilot, engineer, lawyer. But life changed plans. ASUU strike wasted years, economy changed, family problems came.
What has reality taught me?
Realityy taught me that life is not a straigght linee...... Planns will change. It taught me to be patient with myself. It taught me that small small wins still count — if you can feed yourself, learn a skill, help your family small, you are doing well.
Before, I thought life would be easy. Now I know life will happen, but we will still keep moving.
What did you thinnk life woulld be like wheen you weree younnger?
