Hello and welcome to another garden update! It's second half of July already and our garden is slowly coming to the peak of this season so we get to enjoy the benefits of hard work.
I am patiently waiting for these grapes to get ripe! There's plenty of them and I hope the quality will be as good as the quantity.
A lot of apples fell of the trees but there's still some left and our small fig tree is looking good, we can even harvest some figs from it unlike the last year.
Unfortunately, two branches of out biggest pear tree broke completely so we had to remove them. There was a decent amount of pear so we hang them until the pears got ripe so we can at least eat them. Same with the small fig tree, pears also gave us a lot more fruits compared to last season.
To prevent some other tree branches to break, we created some kind of support on peach and plum trees. Maybe it doesn't look that nice but it doesn't matter as long as it works. Chokeberry is doing well, I just have to check when it's time to harvest them since this is the first year having those in our garden.
Blackberries are getting ripe - I took these photos few days ago so it the meantime I found a few ripe ones. I have been also doing raspberry harvests every few days, if possible. It happened recently that I wasn't on top of it and they overgrew/got overripe which I consider such a waste even though there's still plenty left to harvest... With that being said, I should do another round of harvesting this evening!
We are finally enjoying fresh tomatoes from our garden which is something we have been waiting for. Some of them are starting to rot, I hope it won't happen a lot because we make tomato juice every year and in general eat a lot of tomatoes so it's not a surprise it takes up plenty of space in our garden.
Space where we had peas, onions and garlic is now taken by cabbage! Peppers are not at their best, we are really trying to water everything as much as all the veggies and fruits need it but the heat and sun are so strong this summer, it makes me a little bit worried that it will affect the quality of the produce.
On the left photo there's more tomatoes and potatoes - it looks so messy but potatoes are one of the veggies that we clear from the weeds only when it's still small, then we just leave it as it is. When it comes to cucumbers, we started making the support for growing but this year it didn't make any significant difference.
Something we have been trying to grow for few years now but it's always a fail is this kind of colorful peas. The harvest is so small, it's really not worth the space and effort. We also have peppers in another area and these ones are looking better, at least for now.
At the end of our garden, we have twelve plum trees - some are doing better then others. In general they are all still young but every year they give more plums. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, we also had to support some of the branches so they don't break off.
