If you’re African, you will agree with me that African uncles never beat the allegations. But guess what, they’re still family. We were all born into families. We have parents, uncles, aunties and even people who aren’t our blood relatives but are like relatives to us. Life is simple when you live with an open heart. I always say that I was raised by an entire community because at every point in my life, I had people there for me and people to cheer me up no matter how small the situation was and I’m forever grateful for that.
I love my family and yes, as all have our ups downs like every family does but you know one thing, we always come back stronger.If there is one thing I respect and admire about my family, it will be the fact that very own knows to mind their business and still be there for you. You will never find any family member meddling in the other’s affairs. Unless it is an issue they have been asked to be part of, most of my relatives will know what is going on but still respect boundaries because that’s what adults do.
Should there be situation where someone needs help, my family is always there. Sometimes last year, two of my close relatives were involved in a very fatal accident and you won’t believe how everyone came out in their masses to help out. At some point, the hospital has to restrict access because there were always people around to take care of them, visit them and all of that. If this isn’t love, I don’t know what is. The support was massive and you won’t believe me when I tell you we didn’t even know how much most of the bills cost because they were taken care of even before they came up.
I have a very good relationship with everyone in my family . We may not talk for week or even months but we sure to have them show up for you at any given time. Life is busy for all of us but when the need arises, we will be there. Visitation is one thing my family members don’t joke with. They may not be able to call you every week but by the end of the month, they will either pay you a visit or organize an event where everyone can get to see each other.
And don’t get me started with the end of year parties, weddings and naming ceremonies. It’s always a blast. My siblings and I have a very beautiful relationship which I really look forward to getting stronger in the future. I envision a future where we will all be having our beautiful families and our kids will have rich aunties and uncles to spoil them and support them when they want to play stubborn.
Family is as important as any other thing we wish to have in life. Life is beautiful when you spend it with your loved ones and I don’t wish for anything short of that for myself and my family.
