Politics as we know has always been and will always be a dirty game. I grew up seeing first hand how far people were willing to go all in the name of politics. Sadly, people have lost great relationships and even their lives in the name of politics.

But people will always be people. Having passion for something is good, I mean it’s even advised but having the passion for the wrong thing can make things worse than they were originally for you. I have never been a fan of politics. But what goes on in my country and in the word does concern me. And so, I need to keep myself abreast with the latest developments.

Power can be good and bad. Most people desire poorer but only few know how to use it. There’s so much at stake when someone is in a position of power. However, most people just see it as an avenue to enrich themselves and their family. Others also use it to oppress their subordinates. I have been I power so many times and I have equally seen others in power and I tell you that when someone gets power drunk, there’s no saving in most cases until things turn the other way round and they learn their lessons the hard way.

I remember back in basic and in high school how class prefects used to abuse their power. We were just kids but it affected most of the other kids greatly. These same people if not managed might grow up to be power hungry leaders who oppress others. This issue of basic school class prefects was just the beginning of the actual problem.

If there’s a situation where everyone knew a leader was abusing their power, it will be what happened a few years ago in Ghana. Things were hard, the economy was bad and citizens were suffering. The government never made a move to fix the country until citizens came out to protest.

You know what happened, citizens who came out to protest in peace were being arrested. It got to the stage where some citizens were used as scapegoats. They were kept in cells for days until they went to court and were charged with God knows what. The same people that voted you into power. You turn your back on them when things get hard. I don’t know what betrayal could have been worse than this.

This is a story and a time almost every Ghanaian will never forget. This was abuse of power at its peak and you know what, Ghanaians voted that party out of power. What a comeback it was! Sometimes people tend to forget about the same people who helped them get to the top and while at the top they think they can do everything and anything they want. But what we forget is that the people that kept you there are the same people that are going to bring you down and it will all happen so fast you won’t even believe it.

Life is as simple as it can be. Always remember your day ones and nothing else. Be true to yourself and do the right thing at all time.
