I just watched Motor City, and my major takeaway is that this movie didn't have to be made. Like that's the feeling it mostly gave me, the feeling of "what was the need of making this movie? Definitely didn't have to be made".

This doesn't mean I always think about the need for every movie. Like I don't watch a movie thinking an important question the movie has to answer is "what is the need of this movie?" I don't. But I couldn't help having the question blaring in my mind this time as I watched this movie.

And the reason that happened, as I realized after thinking about it, is because the movie toed a different special route but didn't make enough of an impression to justify that route it took.

For those who haven't watched it, it is a movie without dialogue! That's the special route this movie took. But while watching it one (or at least myself) can't feel like the lack of dialogue made it special or made the action have to be inventive in a way that it created an interestingly presented movie.

So with the special route of having no dialogue, all the movie was was a movie without dialogue. I'd have thought a movie without dialogue would go about presenting it's story through some very interesting or special kind of action or something remarkable in some way, but it was just normal. Only missing dialogue.

So, that was a disappointment for me. But it was quite a good story, though, and the casting was great. Alan Ritchson and the other cast members were great. It was also great that they were able to make a quite convincing 1970s to 80s setting.

The fights were quite cool too. Good movie, but it looked and felt like the absence of dialogue took from it rather than added to it, and that's because of what I said earlier about not doing anything special with the action.
