I'd start by saying Ecency is such a great Hive app and a personal favorite of mine. I've always made use of it, right from back when it was Esteem. More grease to your elbows, @good-karma.

For those of us who use Ecency, you know you earn points for your use and these points can be exchanged for an upvote or Post Promotion.

Post Promotion is simply having your post displayed on the feed of a lot of other Ecency users even though they are not your followers.

What the Problem Is

Look at this post from @borjan, when you promote your post on Ecency, this is what it looks like:

I want you to note that it shows "PROMOTED" but doesn't show how old the post is. You need to click on the post to see how old it is:

This is a problem because you wouldn't be able to tell how old the post is at first glance and:

(1.) That can affect the decision of curators. As we all probably know, on Hive, curation rewards depend on the time you voted on a post. The earlier the better. This makes most curators want to vote early, mostly only in the first 24 hours.

As a result, most curators hunt for mostly recent posts in their first 24 hours. When a curator sees a promoted post he can't be sure how old it is because it can't be seen at first glance.

This can make the curator skip the post because our attention span is short. The curator knows he can open up the promoted post to find out the age. But is he ready to spend the few seconds it would take to find out?

He knows it might end up being a waste of his few seconds if it turns out the post is too old. So most curators would see a promoted post and skip it because he's not ready to take a few seconds to find out if it is young enough for a vote or not.

And sometimes a promoted post might be young enough for a vote but the chances of it getting skipped are higher because it would cost a curator some time to find out. Whereas if the age of the post was there the curator would never lose any time finding out.

(2.) That can affect whether you read it or not because you might not know if it is old news or new news. You might just not be sure sometimes. How old a post is might be valuable information depending on what the post is about, though. But the short attention span might not let one give up seconds to find out, so...

Solution

The time of posts should be shown even on promoted posts. "Promoted" can be displayed there alongside the age of the post. I think it is quite simple. I'd like the Ecency team to look into this and see what gives.
