In my adolescence, I was already a lover of reading, and as I imagine many of you also did, I saved the money my parents gave me for snacks. They believed that money was being spent on a sandwich or a soft drink during recess, but I, with the complicity of my yearning to read, diverted it toward a much more flavorful destination: the bookstore on the corner. I perfectly remember the feeling of guilt and excitement when handing over those bills, knowing that in return I was not getting a peanut bar, but something that would feed my imagination for much longer than just a few minutes of taste.
Today, with the perspective of years, I display, with a mixture of pride and nostalgia, the books that I was able to treasure as a small and incomplete collection. They are a series very special to me, the little pocket books published by Editorial Alianza Cien in the late 1990s or early 2000s. That collection was my gateway to a diverse and profound literary world, and thanks to that adolescent buying fever, I was able to have, and still have, small treasures that I now consider invaluable.
Through my hands have passed and rest works such as Aura by Carlos Fuentes, with its enveloping and almost ghostly atmosphere, The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle, which awakened in me a passion for mystery and logical deduction, and The Dunwich Horror by H.P. Lovecraft, which plunged me into the abysses of a cosmic terror I had never imagined. But my collection is not limited to horror or detective genres, for I also treasure the stories of Juan Rulfo, whose desertlike and desolate prose taught me about the harshness and poetry of Mexico, the brief and ingenious fables of Augusto Monterroso, which say so much in so few lines, and the raw, Buenos Aires style of Jorge Arlt, all the way to the existentialist and tormented writing of Ernesto Sabato.
They are more than books; they are witnesses to an era when every page was a discovery, and in this community of literature lovers I have reviewed almost all of them, sharing my impressions and rereading them from the adult perspective I now have. Today, seeing them lined up on my bookshelf, I not only celebrate the joy of owning them, but I also celebrate that adolescent girl who decided to trade sugar for ink and who knew that a book was an investment for a lifetime.
Each one of these small volumes contains not only a story, but the story of my formation as a reader, a story written with every coin saved and every page devoured in secret.

VERSIรN EN ESPAรOL
