The art of doing nothing as my daily dose of medicine

alt

I am sitting in the doorway of my house and it is Saturday. There is no rush, no noise beyond the song of some early-rising bird and the soft brush of a breeze that seems to whisper that today there is no need to run. I have a cup of coffee in my hands, but rather than drinking it, I am holding it close because its warmth seeps through my palms and anchors me to the here and now.

As I watch the empty street and the shadows, I realize something that took me years to understand, and that is that this moment is not a luxury. It is not a prize for having finished all my tasks, nor a reward for having survived a hellish week. This time, this silence, is medicine, it is a necessary dose, as vital as water or sleep, to keep living without breaking into a thousand pieces.

For a long time I believed that my worth lay in my productivity, and if I was not doing something, I felt a pang of guilt, as if the simple act of existing without producing a tangible result were a form of waste. The world constantly shouts at us that we must be more, do more, have more, and it sells us the idea that rest is for the weak. And so, we accumulate days like someone accumulating bills, without realizing that the bank account of the soul is being emptied.

Today I rebel against that lie because I have learned, through bouts of exhaustion and sleepless nights, that rest is not the absence of action but the presence of something much deeper: the connection with myself.

alt

When I allow myself this moment without an agenda, without notifications and without the need to be useful to anyone, something recalibrates inside me. Ideas flow more clearly and, above all, I once again hear that inner voice that always knows what I need.

This time in the doorway is my small rebellion and my way of telling the world that no, that I will not account for every minute of my existence and that I have the right to sit and simply be, to look at the sky and not analyze it.

alt

I am not talking about grand spiritual retreats or exotic vacations, but about the everyday, the small things and that tea you drink without looking at the clock. I am talking about sitting in the doorway of your house on any given Saturday and deciding that you are not going to do anything for anyone other than yourself.

So today, Saturday, I take my medicine without a prescription and without guilt, and I invite you to do the same. Find your doorway, your corner and your moment. You do not need to do anything extraordinary, just breathe, be present and remember that, sometimes, the most healing act is to do nothing.
