Coronas (Sketchbook)
Hello, I'm sharing today's results with you. And yes, it was a day with little time to draw, so there will be just a couple of small drawings in my sketchbook, but the important thing is that the day didn't pass without drawing, one step at a time. Today I was drawing crowns; specifically, I drew two different crowns. Why did I decide to draw crowns? I think simply because they are 3D shapes with symmetry, something I find very difficult when drawing traditionally. Using symmetry is so easily solved when I'm drawing digitally, thanks to the symmetry tools or the always faithful copy, paste, flip.
Hola, les comparto los resultados del día de hoy. Y sí, fue un día con poco tiempo para dibujar, así que serán solo dos pequeños dibujos en mi sketchbook, pero lo importante es que no pasó el día sin dibujar, un paso a la vez. Hoy estuve dibujando coronas; específicamente, dibujé dos coronas distintas. ¿Por qué decidí dibujar coronas? Creo que por el simple hecho de ser formas en 3D con simetría, algo que se me dificulta mucho a la hora de dibujar en tradicional. Usar simetrías es tan fácil de resolver cuando estoy dibujando en digital, gracias a las propias herramientas de simetría o el siempre fiel copiar, pegar, reflejar.
This was the process of the first crown. I tried to use stippling to give volume, but my pen didn't always make the dots when I wanted it to. They say the tool doesn't make the artist, but a tool that behaves as you expect and doesn't fail at moments of precision can make the difference between a good drawing with a fine finish and one that's just passable. This isn't talked about much, perhaps out of sheer romanticism. But that said, don't let not having the right tool stop you, do your best with what you have on hand.
Este fue el proceso de la primera corona. Traté de usar puntillismo para dar volúmenes, pero mi lapicero no hacía siempre los puntos cuando quería. La herramienta no hace al artista, dicen, pero una herramienta que se comporte como esperas y que no falle en momentos de precisión sí puede marcar la diferencia entre un buen dibujo con un acabado fino o uno simplemente resultón. No se habla mucho de esto, quizás por simple romanticismo. Pero eso sí, no dejes que no tener una herramienta adecuada te frene, haz lo mejor con lo que tengas a mano.
For the last crown, I simply drew with blobs and, instead of using the faithful HB pencil as always, I used a black colored pencil that allowed me to achieve much darker tones. Here I struggled quite a bit with proportions and symmetry, but out of the two, it's my favorite drawing.
Para la última corona, simplemente dibujé con manchas y, en lugar de usar el fiel lápiz HB de siempre, usé un lápiz de color negro que me permitía alcanzar tonos mucho más oscuros. Aquí batallé bastante con las proporciones y la simetría, pero de los dos es mi dibujo favorito.
