Hey guys,
Today I made a mess and a big old art one at that.
The purpose of this art exercise was to focus on being in the present moment of creation without having any sort of expectations. There was no idea, or concept to be created it was just me and the paper and a conversation waiting to happen.
I drew inspiration for this from a book I am currently reading -
"Everyone can draw. Far from being a rare gift, only possessed by the 'artist' among us, drawing can be as natural and instinctive to us as breathing - if we let it. When practiced mindfully, drawing has the power to effectively lead us into a deeper relationship with ourselves and the world around us, turning a simple act of creativity into play, into a dance of movement, a way of seeing deeply and connecting profoundly with life." - Mindfulness and the Art of Drawing: A creative path to awareness (Wendy Ann Greenhalgh)
Too often we focus on the end product of our desires and lose the connection with what the process can provide us. It was interesting to observe my mind go through different stages, first trying to analyse and bring order at the start when I was laying down the first lines. My dad came out and made a comment that left me feeling a bit self conscious about what I was doing because it didn't make any sense. But that was the intended purpose. For there to be no thought, only observation to whatever way my hands wanted to move, to whatever way the paint wanted to fall, to whatever things wanted to FLOW. My energy started to shift from analytical to playful and I started getting lost in the motions. I painted for nearly 3 hours with no recollection of time.
Overall it was a really fun experiment and I would recommend anyone willing to give it a try. You'll be surprised by what you might experience.
I hope you enjoy, thanks for being here.
