"I thought I was drowning... until she held me above water"
Hello beautiful ladies of @ladiesofhive 💛
For this week’s contest #291, I’ll be answering:
1️⃣ Did someone support you during your hardest time? How did they help?
The year my world went dark
2023 was the year life tested me. I don't have a skill, my dad was sick in hospital, and I was running out of money for his drugs. Every night I’d sit on my bed, holding my phone, checking my bank balance: ₦420.
I couldn’t tell anyone. I smiled outside. But inside? I was breaking.
Then came the night I hit rock bottom.
3am. One message changed everything
I was crying silently at 3am when my phone buzzed. It was my Senior sister Adaobi
She sent just 3 lines:
"Sis, I know. I heard you last night.
I don’t have much, but I have you.
I’ve sent something small. Please eat and take care of Daddy."
₦15,000. From her NYSC allowance.
She didn’t lecture me. Didn’t say “why didn’t you tell me?”
She just "showed up". With money, with prayers, with “I’m here”.
How she helped me heal :
Because of her, my dad recovered. Because of her, I found strength to start a skill again.
My lesson to every woman reading this
Hard times don’t last, but the people who stand with you in those times? They last forever.
Adaobi taught me that real support isn’t about having millions. It’s about having heart.
Today, I’m stronger. My dad is healthier. And I make sure I’m the “Adaobi" for someone else too.
To every lady here: Who held your hand when life got heavy? Tag them in the comments. Let them know they mattered 💕
