Is this blackmail?

That was the question I asked myself yesterday by 7pm.

My small sister, Chioma, 9 years old, came to my room with my phone. She was smiling that kind of smile that means trouble.

"Sister Amara," she said. "I saw your chat."

My heart cut. Which chat?

She opened my phone gallery. There was a screen record. She screen-recorded my WhatsApp chat with Emeka. Emeka is the guy I told Mama that he is just my fellowship brother. But the chat... hmm, the chat was saying "my love" and "I miss your hug" many times.

Chioma said, "If you don't buy me ice cream and shawarma and give me 2k, I will send this video to Mama's phone. And I will also tell Mama that you did not go to church last Sunday, you went to see Emeka."

Is this blackmail?

I wanted to shout. I wanted to seize the phone. But this small girl is smart. She already sent the video to her own small Itel phone.

I negotiated like UN. From 2k to 1k. From shawarma to only ice cream. She refused. She said "Do you want Mama to see 'my love'?"

I paid. I bought the ice cream, shawarma, and transferred 2k. She collected it and said "Thank you sister, you are so kind. Don't worry, I have deleted it." Then she winked.

I know she did not delete it. She has saved it as her retirement plan. Every week she will come again.

Now I understand. Blackmail is not only for movies. It lives in my house. It weaars school unniform and is 9 yeears old.
