A swimsuit more than 20 years old
I have always believed that clothes speak about us, about who we are, what we do. In that sense, clothes are important because they communicate, they transmit a message without words to those who see us. When I talk about the importance of what we wear, I am not only referring to the brand, but also to the style of the clothes and even the cleanliness of our garments: if you have two impeccable pants and two impeccable shirts, they are enough for someone to have a positive image of you.
I remember that at one time I was criticized for spending money on clothes, but over time those purchases have been a great investment because many of those garments still exist and at this time that I do not have the economic solvency that I had before, I do not worry about spending money on clothes.
I could talk about garments that have many years with me, 20 and 30 years, but I will only talk about a yellow swimsuit that has an emotional importance for me. This swimsuit was knitted by an artisan friend who died of cancer and was making things to pay for her treatment.
Ale was a great friend who wove bracelets and necklaces to sell in a city park. One day I met her and I was delighted with her work: she looked like a little spider weaving everything the customers asked her to weave. I remember that day I asked her to make me a bag. I was so delighted with her work that I later ordered a blouse from her. That bag and that blouse still exist today, and since they are woven, they are unique, atemporary and unrepeatable garments.
One day Ale was diagnosed with an illness and to pay for her treatment, she began to knit larger pieces. As the blouse she had made for me was yellow and the bag was black, on her initiative, she made me a swimsuit knitted yellow with black and one day she called me and said:
_I have made a swimsuit for you. I made it thinking of you.
Indeed, when I saw it, I bought it immediately. So at this moment I not only have a swimsuit that was knitted by an artist, but it was made especially for me.
Just like fragrances or places, some clothes make us relive old memories, remember past moments. As I look at the photographs, not only do I see my yellow woven swimsuit, which has been with me for more than 20 years, but I also see a young, happy Nancy . I see my oldest nephew who is now 34 years old and my youngest nephew, the one who is two years old, who died last year when he was 18 and who will never accompany me to the beach anymore. Then I think: what a nice yellow bathing suit and how lucky I am to have it.
