Feed the body, feed the soul

In recent months, I have been eating poorly. I don’t have much appetite and I have lost weight. All of this is due to stress and perhaps some underlying sadness, which comes and goes at times. Honestly, I feel very exhausted from work, and more than eating, I prefer to sleep and rest. Sometimes I leave at 7 in the morning, and when I return in the afternoon, I feel very fatigued. I thought this semester would be lighter and more comfortable, but it has been the opposite: I am overloaded with work, and unfortunately, this has affected my eating habits.

I am clear that all emotions affect my stomach. My stomach is sensitive to my emotional states. Since I was little, it has always been like this: I lose my appetite if I am sad, if I am stressed, if I am anxious, and even if I am in love, I don't feel like eating. It's as if feelings fill my stomach and eating becomes a second priority.

The other thing is that I'm eating whatever. I used to be more careful with my food, but in these months I have been eating whatever is available, whatever is at hand, the quickest option. For example, if I spend the whole day at work, I prefer to eat some cookies and a lot of coffee to stay awake, or a piece of bread with butter and some juice. Something frugal, light, that doesn't make me feel heavy, but that quiets the noises in my stomach. Those 'snacks' can be my lunch for the day, and I really feel satisfied.

I know I need to get my eating habits in order, take care of my health, and gain back the weight I've lost. To do this, I will try to take vitamins and, especially, slow down the pace of my days. Now that the December holidays are coming, it's a good time to eat more, do it slowly, without rushing, savor and enjoy what I put in my mouth, and eat differently. I have never exercised, but I also feel that it would be an excellent way to gain weight, build muscle, and drain the accumulated fatigue.

Sometimes daily life puts us on a wave of things that make us forget more fundamental ones. Filling ourselves with work, for example, can be a trap for our health. Unconsciously, sometimes working, fulfilling our obligations, becomes our priority and without realizing it we neglect our well-being. Sometimes we go so fast that we don't notice the changes in our body and only see them when it's too late. Today is a good time to listen to our body. Do it today, not tomorrow.
