Hello everyone, today I will show you and talk a little about yesterday. June 10th is a holiday here in Portugal and a very important day is celebrated, day of Portugal.
The 10th of June is Portugal day, it is Camões day and the day of the Portuguese communities. Portugal's holiday is celebrated on the date of Camões' death. Camões was an emblematic figure, associated with the discoveries, it was used as a regime to celebrate colonial territories and the feeling of belonging.
On this day the president of the republic and some members of the state participate in ceremonies to commemorate the day of Portugal, this year the ceremony was held in the northern region of Portugal and so I managed to come 😊 Every year it is celebrated in different cities, with parades and military demonstrations. This was not celebrated in the Douro wine region located in Régua
The military were super friendly, always ready to clarify our doubts. It was a day well spent. I admire them a lot for having to go to war and say goodbye before their family because they don't know if they're going to come back. It gives me chills
Something that was also very beautiful. The president of the republic asked everyone in Portugal to put up a Portuguese flag and I thought it was really cool. Almost everyone put the flag in the window 😊
There were soldiers, sailors, doctors and doctors' assistants.
First we went to the military area and they had a kind of museum, some war tanks and war planes
There was a huge queue for people to observe the interior of the plane and they even had a small free guide to explain everything about the engine of that plane, and a little of the history of the plane. I confess that I wanted to go see the interior but with that whole queue I didn't go
Then there was also a helicopter
Then, as I said, there was a small museum there to observe the material they use and there were some military personnel there so if you wanted to ask questions, they would clarify all your doubts.
There were also some weapons there that they use in war, you could pick them up and they explained how many shots they fire per minute, the force they have, the kilometers
There are also tanks that walk on water.
There is also the navy part. My father was in the navy for many years, but then when my mother got pregnant with me she ended up leaving the navy at the age of 31 and he had been in the navy since he was 18. He even found some of his friends there and they chatted for a while.
In the navy they also had some small boats where you could ride for free, but there was a huge queue too and I ended up not going.
Then there is also the red cross, which are doctors and doctors' assistants who go to war to save people. What I learned was that they have to save everyone, even the "enemies".
They also had a kind of tent and inside there were all the materials they use, they also had doctors measuring blood pressure, diabetes. There were a lot of people in line too 😅
They even have material for animals, which I think is great 😊 We should always help our animals
Then, to finish it off, I went to a souvenir shop and bought a magnet to put on the fridge. the magnet cost 3€.
And I also bought some sweets typical of Régua. Whenever I come to Régua I have to buy these sweets. It is very rare for me to come here, but I have a cousin who is from here and when he comes to my house I ask him to bring. Each package cost €1.
