A 2010 journal published in "Journal of Physiology" by a Belgian researchers found that, male subject who ate food high in fat and carbohydrate and engaged in strenuous exercises for 60 to 90 minutes before eating breakfast, gained very little weight compared to the other subject. A study in the British Journal of Nutrition found that working out before breakfast burns nearly 20 percent more fat than waiting until after your first meal. The study was small and conducted on men, but as lead researcher Javier Gonzalez points out, “Women burn more fat during exercise, so it’s possible they could see an even greater fat-burning benefit by working out before breakfast.”

Improved Sleep and Reduced Stress

A 2011 study published in the "Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research" tracked blood pressure levels and sleep patterns in participants between the ages of 40 and 60. They are divided into 3 groups which are required to exercise at 3 different times respectively; 7 am, 1 pm and 7 pm. Each participant exercised moderately by walking on a treadmill for 30 minutes three times a week. They found that participants who exercised at 7 am experienced an overall 10% reduction in blood pressure for the rest of the day and 25% reduction in blood pressure at night.

Morning workouts also helped the volunteers sleep longer and go through deeper sleep cycles when compared to exercising at other times of the day. The morning group spent up to 75 percent more time in the deep sleep stage at night. This can gives some advantage for the body as the more deep sleep the body gets, the more time the body has to recuperate.
