My work haven't needed me for as many shifts this week
In fact - apart from my one regular nursing shift, they haven't needed me at all. It has been a week where I could start to do some extra writing competitions, I have started sorting through things in the house - so on and so forth.
I have always been working full time as a single person, and as a Mum I've still been working 2 to 3 days per week. I'm not used to the idea of 'winding down'. I thought of working bank or agency nursing elsewhere, but by the time I organize it, I will probably be needed back at my hospital again. I'm just used to being a busy person. Perhaps it is time to take a short break?
My other half (the lovely Hubby) suggested I should consider this as a practice towards my retirement - looking towards what other things I plan to do when I finally do retire from nursing. When he said that I suddenly found that the writing competitions today were too difficult and suddenly didn't want to do them. I have to be young, vibrant and full of energy to be writing entries that will make an impact. Suddenly I just wanted to cuddle up with a good book and chill (after doing the housework of course).
I have to look towards my occupations and pastimes - especially as my son gets older and doesn't need me as much. My time has always been so precious. Now is the time to start perhaps letting it also be a bit enjoyable.
But I'm not over the hill yet and even when I hit 50, I still won't be over the hill. There is a lot of work to do - both in the hospital and elsewhere. Also - you're only as old as you think you are. I should keep myself young with my thoughts!

That and a nice chunk of makeup can make a girl feel younger. That is worth holding onto as the world around you starts to wind down.
