Let's just say I found the ending very rushed and somewhat forced; all in all, it was a bit of a letdown. Anyway, here’s the plot: Tricia and Ethan are a young couple in love who are house-hunting. One day, they go to view a house in the middle of nowhere, and—in a classic twist—a snowstorm hits, leaving them stranded inside the property. The house is supposed to be unoccupied, but Tricia becomes convinced they aren't alone; she notices strange details that make her suspect someone else is there. The house belonged to a famous psychiatrist who went missing, and the story alternates between Tricia’s perspective and the psychiatrist’s past. The psychiatrist recounts stories about her patients and her isolated lifestyle, describing how everyone warned her against living alone in such a remote location—in a house far too huge for just one person.

Meanwhile, Tricia and Ethan explore the house, which is dominated by an unsettling portrait of the psychiatrist and all her books; on their first night trapped there, Tricia is unable to sleep, and while looking for something to read, she stumbles upon a secret room where the psychiatrist kept a collection of tapes from her patient sessions.

Meanwhile, the narrative shifts to the past, where the psychiatrist begins to tell her story; two patients stand out: a young man with narcissistic personality disorder who seems to torment her—eventually blackmailing her with a compromising video, making her life a living hell, and driving her to desperate measures—and a traumatized young woman who survived a massacre and, suffering from severe psychological issues, looks to the psychiatrist as a mother figure or savior. The story constantly toggles between the past and the present, weaving together the psychiatrist's history and Tricia’s experience of secretly listening to the tapes while sensing an unsettling presence in her home. The plot is intriguing and maintains suspense for much of the book, but I was deeply disappointed by the ending; at a certain point, it feels as though the author rushed to wrap things up and concocted a truly implausible plot twist—a real shame, given that the initial concept was excellent.

La trama resulta intrigante y mantiene el suspense durante gran parte del libro, pero el final me decepcionó profundamente; llega un momento en que da la impresión de que la autora se apresuró a cerrar la historia e ideó un giro argumental verdaderamente inverosímil, lo cual es una lástima, dado que la premisa inicial era excelente.
