This is my post for #freewriters 2190 prompt mud pie hosted by mariannewest@mariannewest and daily.prompt@daily.prompt

In the photo I am not really making a mud pie I was using the kid's toy to catch sandfleas, I have one in my left hand. This was a few years ago when one of my sisters had a condo on the beach and we were visiting her and I wanted to fish and see the sandfleas. I went to the area of the condo that had a bin with kids' beach toys and took the ones that I thought would work to dig the sandfleas.

In 1978 I lived in Springfield Missouri. One of my friends said her oven broke and her mother wanted to use mine. I told her to tell her Mother to bring whatever she needed to cook to my house any time she wished to cook something.

To my surprise, she brought a cooky sheet filled with dirt. I would not call it a mud pie like people in Haiti eat, she was a Colored Lady but not Haitian.
I copied this from Google
In Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, the scarcity of food has made the Haitians turn to mud platters for their survival. No, not to hold food but to eat them. They have got so used to
eating mud platters that now this has become a normal practice for them.

She had what looked like plain old dirt on it. I asked her what she was going to do with the dirt and she told me that she was going to cook it and then eat it. I let her cook her dirt but I was not going to help her eat it. Later I asked my friend where her Mother gets the dirt and she said she does not buy it, she gets it from her yard. Even though her Mother was healthy, I was glad that I did not try it. All I could think was did her dog pee in the area where she gets the dirt? Maybe cooking kills all the things that are in the dirt, but the thought was enough for me.

In the 1980's I was back here in Florida and working for a grove where they would haul in dirt called dolomite, which is a red colored dirt, A Mexican woman picked up a handful and ate it. She told me you could eat it this way but it is better if you bake it.

Have you ever tried eating dirt? This is what Google says about it
Some believe eating dirt or clay can:
help improve stomach issues.
soften skin or alter skin tone.
offer protective benefits during pregnancy.
prevent or treat illness by absorbing toxins.
