24 September 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3236: simplicity

“So, what I like about life here is what they call simplicity,” ten-year-old Glendella Ludlow was saying on a Zoom with her Sunday School teacher, Sis. Mosette Smith, about life after being adopted by her big cousins Capt. R.E. and Mrs. Thalia Ludlow.

“I would have thought life as now one of eight is more complex,” Sis. Smith said, “but, you tell me, Glendella.”

“We're just one big crazy but happy family of Ludlows,” Glendella said. “Yes, Rob is always going to to be talking his head off and eating to support his calorie intake that he needs for that. Edwina is trying to be a sweet little girl but also lives in a world in which someone is always going to need to stand up and fight for the right so she is getting ready. George and his best friend Milton from two doors down invent more ways to get into trouble than I even knew existed. But there's love here, so, it all works out. Life is simple in that way.”

“Oh,” Sis. Smith said. “I see what you mean now.”

“I figure, living in God's family is like this too as an adult,” Glendella said. “We're all a little different, but God is our father and Jesus is our Big Brother and we are loved and can love each other through.”

“That's not a bad way of thinking about it,” Sis. Smith said.

“And, the good thing about heaven is, by the time we get there, we will all be perfect, so … uh … Sis. Smith I gotta go because George and Milton's latest experiment is moving this way.”

“See you Sunday on the big zoom, Glendella,” Mrs. Smith said. “Tell your new parents I said hi.”
