Good afternoon, readers of @stemsocial and the rest of Hive.
Today we have already concluded the graphic part: the longitudinal profile and section plans of the main covered grated channel.
This collects all the rainwater coming from the factory's main road, the lined gutter, and other areas that drain into it.
As we had already mentioned, this is nothing more than a drainage channel, but it has the particularity that people and vehicles will travel over its surface.
For this reason, it will be covered with Irving-type gratings, and since these have a specific width, calculation requirements will necessitate two contiguous channels for the evacuation of all the water.
The gratings will have the function of allowing water runoff into the interior of the channel, as well as enabling traffic over them.
The interior width of each channel will be 370 mm as an effective hydraulic section, being twin channels as already mentioned. The height will be variable according to the longitudinal profile.
As hydraulic parameters in the profile, it is reported that the maximum flow rate at the end will be 585.2 L/s, that is, 292.96 L/s per channel; velocity of 1.08 m/s, y/b = 2 ratio, normal water depth Y_n = 0.74, and critical depth Y_c = 1. These values were obtained with the help of the AKUA software, as already seen in a previous post.
As construction parameters, the excavation depth, the grade elevation in each section, and the manhole are listed.
This construction element, like the circular collector, will have inspection manholes from B1 to B7. Manhole B4 is where all the water coming from the previously mentioned lined gutter drains into. These manholes will be made of reinforced concrete, just like the channel structure; let's remember that it must support the traffic of heavy vehicles over it. We also present here a section showing the reinforcement, the availability and quantity of steel, and the rest of the materials.
At the end of the channel, a grease trap will also be located, which will collect by flotation all lubricants and greases draining into the channel and prevent them from reaching the river. Finally, at the outlet of the grease trap, we have designed a 630 mm diameter HDPE pipe through which the captured water will be discharged into the river.
So much for this graphic part. In the next post, we will be looking at the materials needed to execute this work and the cost associated with its execution.
Many thanks to the readers for their interest. The images are entirely my own authorship.

See you soon
