Drummers tell you all sorts of stuff.
"Drummers are generally more intelligent than the average human being."
It could be true. I'm not a drummer. I wouldn't know. Not unless I gave them all an IQ test and assessed them.
Why would I do that? I'm a teacher for a living. I'm here to rock.
"Do you realise; if there was a power cut, you'd still be able to hear the drummer?"
I see the logic. It would be great if everyone loved drum solos. But they don't. Even Roger Taylor of Queen stopped doing them.
Anyway, let's have a story.
One day, an up and coming band were getting ready for a contest. The winning band would have some opportunities.
However, the drum kit had gone missing. How can they drum without a kit?
"We need to ring the police."
They do need to, but they are due on stage very soon.
"You don't need your own drum kit."
"Who said that?" asked the drummer of the up and coming band.
"You don't need your own drum kit."
"Who keeps saying that?" asked the drummer, again.
"All the bands use the same drum kit, so that the content will flow."
"Who said that?"
"It doesn't matter who said it. Heed my advice. Get on stage and play."
"We're all a bit pissed off," said the singer.
"Good," said the voice.
"Who are you?*
"You keep asking the same question. You don't appear to be as intelligent as you claim."
"I'm just getting more pissed off," said the bass player.
"Hallelujah," said the voice. "Get on with it."
The band played. They were angry and it showed in the performance. When the first song finished, they received the loudest cheer they had ever received.
"Wow."
They get to play two more songs. They were the contest underdogs, but they now have a chance to win.
As they leave the stage, a police van is waiting outside.
"Hello boys," said the policeman. "I have something for you."
The policeman opens the back of his van. In front of the band is the missing drum kit
"You found it," said the drummer
*Not exactly," said the policeman. "It was me that took it in the first place."
"Why? We should ring the police."
"I am the police."
"Why did you take our drum kit?"
"Have they announced the winners yet?" asked the policeman.
"No. Not yet. We may have a chance."
"That's why. You'd lost your way for some time. You needed that edge again. Tonight, you had it. Best show you've done for ages."
"How did you know that we would have another drum kit to use?"
"I told you enough times," said the policeman.
The musicians are standing there in silence.
The policeman responds.
"I think the words you are looking for are, thank you."
They're still standing there silently. In fairness, this is not the sort of thing that happens every day.
"One more thing," said the policeman. "It really does annoy me when people say that it is the devil that listens to this type of music. I can assure you, he really doesn't have good taste."
