“I want to write a story for children,” I said. “It’s important. I want them to be the ones to enjoy it. Not for adults. OK, I would like adults to enjoy it, but I really want it to be for the children.”

But as you know, everyone needs something to write about.

The topic for today, a race car.

This is a magical tale about an old race car that had seen better days. It was left in the garage and was in need of some love and some care.

Lots of people have a passion for cars, much more than I do. I have pointed them towards this car, but nobody really seems to be interested. It is almost as if they’re saying to me, “it needs to be pounded.”

But, I don’t want to pound the car. Because I want to write a story for children about the car.

One fine day, a man walked by. He was polite enough to stop and wish me good morning.

“Good morning,” I replied. “What a lovely day.”

“Yes, it is,” replied the man.

This man was a distinguished character. While hair and a beard. A calm pleasant voice.

“I want to help you,” said the man.

I didn’t ask for any help. What an earth could he mean?

“I want to help you with your story. I believe that you have a car that you want to write about.”

“I would be happy to write any story about anything,” I replied. “As long as children enjoy it.”

“Let’s see it,” said the man.

I took the man to the garage.

“It has potential,” I said.

“No, it doesn’t,” said the man. “It should be pounded.”

“Oh,” I said. “This is sad.”

“Why are you so sad?” said the man. “What did you expect from the car?”

“A story,” I replied. “We need a story for the children.”

“Close your eyes,” said the man. “Keep them closed. Breathe.”

I kept my eyes closed and continued to breathe deeply. It made me feel calm.

“You can open your eyes now,” said the man.

I did. In front of me was the most beautiful sight. The car was restored to its former glory. Shiny and yellow.

But the man was no longer there. He had vanished.

Who was he? I never did say thank you.

Apart from wanting to say thank you, there is, of course, one thing I really must do. The gas tank is full so I shall see you all later.

Bye.
