As a tourist strolling around the city of Novi Sad, practically everything seems fascinating, fresh, and astonishing. The gothic and ancient buildings’ architecture attracts attention, and one can take beautiful pictures anywhere.
However, if you are a local resident, most of these things will gradually cease to be remarkable. People get used to their daily routine, and going to work or other familiar places becomes automatic. One rarely stops to admire the beauty of the cathedral because it is a usual part of the way.
It applies to almost every city, and I assume, every nation has its local analogs of Novi Sad. When living somewhere for a long time, one tends to lose awareness of the surrounding fascinating world because it becomes too familiar. Therefore, to see the beauty of everyday life, one has to be a stranger there, literally. Only then can a person stop and appreciate the magnificence and perfection of the world around.
I took many pictures while being in Novi Sad because it seemed surreal to me most of the time.
Novi Sad is a city located along the Danube river in Serbia. It is a wonderful mix of neo-classicist, gothic, and Austro-Hungarian buildings. Centers of such cities are filled with cathedrals and unique facades that hypnotize every passer-by, yet the locals tend to get used to the beauty around them.
The example above once again confirms that the feeling of unfamiliarity and discovery is essential for remaining amazed by the world around. It also makes one value a chance to explore even a small part of the world they are familiar with.
