While traversing the city, you will be able to grasp its long history and the atmosphere of the period during which it was founded.

The territory of modern-day Belgrade was first settled by the Celtic tribe of Scordisci in the third century BC and later turned into a critical outpost of the Roman Empire.

Perched on the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers, with the formidable fortress guarding the city at its core, Belgrade saw more than a hundred wars waged on its territory. The fortress was repeatedly overrun and left in ruins by the Byzantines, Hungarians, Ottomans, and Habsburgers.

But the Danube river, which flows either through or along the border of most European countries, has made the capital of Serbia one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

These photographs were taken from the top of the fortress, facing the beautiful scenery of the river banks.
