Gardoš Tower is an iconic landmark perched atop Gardoš Hill in Zemun, Belgrade, overlooking the Danube River.
The kids had a wonderful view of the tower from the house they rented for their Belgrade holiday.
Standing 36 meters (118 ft) tall, It was built using sandstone and heavy hollow bricks on the ruins of the medieval Zemun Fortress.
The tower was built in 1896 by Hungarian authorities to celebrate 1,000 years of Hungarian settlement in the Pannonian Plain. It was the southernmost of five Millennium Towers erected across the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The top observation platform offers sweeping views of Zemun's red-tile roofs, the Danube River, Great War Island, and the Belgrade skyline.
Inside, the tower hosts art exhibitions, cultural events, and a gallery.
The illuminated steeple is the Church of St. Nicholas.
I have seen the Danube in Germany, but this is a part of the world I have always wanted to visit and I am loving all these photos the kids took in Belgrade for me to share with you Since I am unable to travel this is the next best thing!
