Soul Harvest is the first Spellforce 3 expansion that expanded the base game that was released almost 2 years ago with a huge chunk of content. It is a true old school expansion, not just a small DLC content patch you can see in games these days. Soul Harvest has a brand new campaign with new characters, new hero classes, two new playable races and a whole bunch of user interface and performance improvements. This is how you do expansions. Story takes us on a journey through the fantasy land of EO where new/old evil is emerging again, you and your faithful companions are there to stop the bastard god from destroying everything, sounds kinda generic sure, but I can assure you the game made it interesting to experience the story through all the fun game mechanics and interactions.

Big part of the game is the balance between Real Time Strategy and Role Play elements, as one of the rare hybrids between two genres Spellforce always succeeded to strike that balance and make both RTS and RPG parts feel awesome. Two new races in addition to three old races are Dwarfs and Dark Elves. Both of those new factions are very different in their approaches to victory, Dwarfs as you imagine are fortification based, heavy armored and technologically inclined race that always delivers. Dark Elves are sinister cousins of Elves and they use dark magic, soul harvesting and use many monstrous creatures to do their bidding, also a very fun race to experience. Both races already feel more interesting than Humans, Orks and Elves from the original, naturally old races are also upgraded and they expanded their unit roster with flying units.

Class system in this game is probably the most interesting aspect of the game. There are 9 classes(two new, Druidism and Demonology) which you can combine into hybrid classes, for example you can create a standard tank class and mix it with Demonologist to create a Sanguine Knight. His speciality is then to use his health pool to inflict damage on enemies, drain life from them and summon a strong demon. That is just one interesting combination among many you can do. You can also collect strong items to increase the power levels of your heroes, 4 of them can hold whole armies at bay with their strong late game items and skills.

Soul Harvest provides a ton of new content and is easily one of my favorite expansions this year. Spellforce is probably one of the most unique RTS/RPG hybrid series of all time and with this expansion it solidifies it's 16 year old legacy. I hope there will be more Spellforce games in the future. This is a standalone expansion meaning you don't need to own the original to play it, so I can easily recommend you to try it. Score: 89/100!
