No Blackstone. No problem.

Today I didn't quite make my goal. I did, however, make a kick ass dinner. It snowed where we're at, but my wife really wanted some smash burgers from the Blackstone. If you don't know what a black stone is, it's a big flat top griddle. It's really good for making hebachi style fried rice and it's also really really good for making smash burgers. There was only one problem.

We got about six inches of snow and I didn't feel like trudging through all of that to cook the burgers. That's okay, though, because I had a backup plan. Before I ever got the Blackstone, I first tried out the concept with a cast iron griddle from Lodge.

alt

It's a little smaller than I would like but it did the job. We have a gas range, so it fit right on the grates. After coating it with a fresh coating of oil, I turned on both burners and I was in business. I had already rolled my ground beef into three ounce balls in seasoned them.

alt

So all that was left to do was to throw them on the griddle and smash them down. On the black stone, I would have been able to do them all at the same time. But on this little lodge cast iron, I could only do three to four at a time.

Once the cooking got started, it was too hard to take pictures. So unfortunately, I don't have very many other photos to show. But here's the finished product. They came out delicious.

I finished the day with over 7,000 steps. It was difficult to get all the steps in because I spent a lot of the day sitting. On a good note, I had over 20 minutes of active minutes and 10 flights of stairs. Even though my calories show as being good, I actually have to add about 300 extra calories to this, which I forgot to add. So I was over on that goal.

Today's song was Jolene by Dolly Parton. It's not my favorite song, but country's not really my genre either. I went to Dolly Wood this past summer and I learned a little bit about this song. It's actually about a bank teller that Dolly Parton and her husband used to visit. Dolly Parton said that she would always flirt with her husband. I don't think there was ever anything really scandalous going on, but it inspired Dolly to write this song.

Well, that's it for today. For tomorrow's goals, it's going to be the same thing. 7,000 steps and 1,800 calories. I'll check in with you all tomorrow.
