Its a weird name for a park in Calgary, Sandy Beach, where there is no sand. Its more like a rocky beach along the shores of the Elbow River. That being said, it is a great place to visit, consisting of some trails that take you down into the valley where you can walk alongside the river. It is an off-leash dog park as well, so you will likely encounter many people out with their dogs. Sometimes you might just encounter a random dog with no owner in sight as you wind through the tree-lined trails. This place has been much the same for at least 100 years when they named the park, just a simple little getaway along the running water.
