I like when we can keep old buildings around. Especially when they can be restored back to their old lustre and still fit in with current times. I think that is what makes some of these structures feel timeless; they find new purpose sometimes, but if they still stand, it is almost as if they are timeless. This part of downtown Calgary and the Warehouse district, just a few blocks south, have been here since the early days of the city.
Some of them are close to or over 100 years old. For a city like Calgary, which isn't super old but still has a rich history that is significant, especially when you consider how much is always being built here with some ultra-modern buildings rising up every year for decades on end. If I took this same walk in 1950, I am certain to see if I could get many of the same brick, concrete, and sandstone buildings in my photographs.
