About a month ago, I planted some corn in my garden and honestly I wasn’t expecting to have much from it at all… It was getting around the dry season period so I kept wondering if the corn would even grow properly… I wasn’t even expecting some perfect harvest or anything from it. I just planted it and decided to see what would happen but looking at it now, I think it is doing much better than I ever expected.
The funny thing is that I didn’t use fertilizer or add any chemicals to it…. I just planted the corn seeds naturally and left it to grow with the soil, rain and whatever nutrients were already available. Some of my neighbors asked if I added fertilizer but I didn’t to be honest… And surprisingly, some of the plant have already started producing maize while others are still growing.
That part actually made me notice something I probably wouldn’t have thought about before planting them… They were actually all planted around the same period and in the same general area but they aren’t developing at exactly the same speed. Just like the saying that all fingers aren’t equal… Cus some are already showing what I planted them for, while others are still taking their time to grow.
I think this is one of the interesting things about gardening cus you can plant several things together at the same time and still not getting exactly the same result from all of them. When One plant seems to be saying, “I’m ready… the other one is basically saying, “Give me some time.” 😂. And I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing cus I feel that is how natural works.
Sometimes when we plant something, we expect everything to follow the same timeline because we started everything at roughly the same time. But nature doesn’t always work according to the schedule in our head…. For now, I’m just happy to see that the corn is actually doing well, especially considering how uncertain I was when I first planted it.
I still want to see how the ones that are growing behind will turn out, maybe they are just taking their time… they might lucky came out having the biggest maize.
