What a good feeling this is! 😃
After several months of drought, today we were surprised by rain. Yay!!! 💃
If I were a child, I would have run out into the street and shouted: rain, rain (like my niece did one summer when she was still little, and it has remained etched in our memory forever because my mom (her grandmother) became a little angry that the rain got her completely soaked. 😆
The weather forecast app on our cell phone has been showing the same temperatures for the whole past month, and there will be no change for the entire month of August either. The temperature during the day is around 35 degrees Celsius (some days were around 40); when we are lucky, it is closer to 30 (meaning 33 or 34) and at night the temperatures oscillate between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius.
Sometimes the app would announce cloudy weather and "rain", which only brought us false hope because never, ever did the rain come, nor did the weather get colder in all this time. But today it finally told us the truth!! The grey sky sent us this gift in the form of thunderstorms and showers!
Btw, the clouds were crazy. I didn't take any photos of them when the storm started but wow, they were scary! This photo was taken when three of several showers had already passed.
I was really excited when it all started this afternoon. The first signs were those dark grey and black clouds of very strange shapes. They were like big, dark, fluffy pillows, all rolled up into one big, thick blanket. They weren't just innocent clouds formed by a thin layer of moisture. They promised much more fun. ⛈
Every few minutes seconds, I was going out to the balcony to observe how quickly the clouds were travelling in the sky, bringing more and more wind, fear and the scent of the storm. And then, one by one, huge raindrops started falling. I was a little worried because I thought those big drops would turn into hail, but luckily they didn't. The first downpour, which lasted for a few minutes, was accompanied by constant thunder. Those sounds coming from the clouds didn't stop, as if some huge machine was grinding and crashing the ice all the time.
The next storm came some twenty minutes after the first one, and the situation was similar, though the raindrops were a bit smaller and quicker in the second shower. They washed the streets very well. 😁 This "cleaning" was already needed after so much time without rain... And I think that the plants and the crops liked the rain even more than the streets, buildings and the cars.
Several of these short showers followed the first one, each time leaving a slightly brighter sky behind. Worry and excitement were replaced by complete happiness and joy because an afternoon like this was much needed this summer to break up the monotony of sunny days.
We went out for a little walk, and then I took the opportunity to enjoy the sight of these pretty raindrops. I know it is not a big deal to have a rainy afternoon... in some normal circumstances. However, as this summer is not as mild as it should be, every raindrop should be seen as a gift and blessing from the sky. ⛈
