Every year, in the autumn, the streets of this small town, Alfaz del Pi in Spain turn into one open museum. You can walk and see all these pictures, created by amateurs and professionals. Balconies, which throughout the year give place to flowers in pots and curious neighbors, who observe the life of the city center from the height of their terrace, are now becoming a place for exhibiting works of art.

As always, I missed the opening of this event called "Balconades". However, the paintings were there throughout the whole month of September, so it happened that I could catch some of those colors hanging from the balconies. Not so vibrant colors, though, but not the painting had the fault, but the cloudy day. The sky was greyish and no sunlight to cheer up my walk. But some of those nice scenes brought a smile to my face.

So this event, Balconades has some established conditions, but no so hard rules are applied. Artists can prepare their work in freestyle, free theme. The technique of how they want to create their painting is also free, but, they have to think that it is an external exhibition and match that condition. I think they should be resistant to different weather conditions, and also to be of a certain size.

In total, 59 canvases were hanging from the balconies and facades of the houses and buildings of the old part of the town. This is the old nucleus of Alfaz del Pi, which covers several streets with the possibility to expose the paintings. They are mainly narrow streets, with older and not very high buildings. Artisanal and small businesses are situated here, but I have to admit, they are still not so touristically oriented as in some neighboring towns, like Altea or Benidorm. This town still preserves the tranquility of its residents.

During this cloudy day walk, I managed to take photos of maybe half of the exposed painting. There were more of them in the other small streets, but from those I saw, the butterfly was my favorite. Sort of a dream, flying above the flowers, towards the sun. Maybe it wanted also to see some of the sunlight. To cheer up, and bring more positivity to that day.

Also, I loved this tree, with an interesting canopy. The wind has shaped it, but I like it because it’s not a conventional canopy. Just like when you cut your hair into an interesting shape. Black and dark, with its weight, although the background of the image brings hope, one that always helps us move on.

If you took this #Wednesdaywalk with me and liked some of the paintings, it would be great to know which one was your favorite. Maybe the Zebra? The violinist? The bicycle is also cool, but maybe you have another one that caught your attention?
