I cannot get to terms with this style of parenting – or can I?
I recently introduced my ten-year-old daughter to Splinterlands.
In most people’s upbringing, I suspect that there has always been an element of shaming in gaming amongst parents, in other words, a common understanding in parenting (whether true or not is another matter) that too much computer time is considered unhealthy.
So, it was not an easy thing for me to push my daughter into NFT Play-to-Earn. Splinterlands was of course the game of choice, as both I and my two adult sons are grinding hard for Splintershards, Dark Energy Crystals, and real estate and competition-level card-decks.
How do you plan the introduction to have maximum effect? You just make sure she gets a Legendary "Ancient Lich", valued at approximately 24.00 USD as the VERY FIRST REWARD CARD.
(she was so ‘effing’ lucky).
Now she is planning her daily quests every day so as to maximize outcome and ranking.
I obviously did all the wallet stuff, the node-optimization, and such technical matters. Now she just plays for a half-hour to an hour every evening, and hopefully, within a month or a quarter, end up on a level that can offer her a decent pocket-money salary – in crypto.
And now she is learning about blockchain and crypto through gaming and playing – at ten years of age ?? This stuff is NOT taught at school. Not even in 2021.
My experience from playing in the Silver and Gold league for a couple of months is, that you can relatively easily maintain an income of Cards and Coins that increases over time obviously but giving you anything from one to ten dollars per day. That might not seem like a lot, but then again, at ten years of age, you just need to learn to stake the coins, wait ten plus years and a couple of x-doublings, and you will easily have the cash needed for a down-payment on either housing or study or something equally life-changing.
For her upcoming birthday, what does she want? A bunch of Daily Quest Reward Potions of course ????
