I'm bursting with glee to be back here! Logging in again after all this time felt like reopening a door I didn't even realize I'd missed so much. There's something about seeing this space again, my old posts, the little corner I built here, that made me realize how much I actually love writing and putting my thoughts out into the world.
The reason I've been away is NYSC. And guess who's done with service now? Me! 🎉
I accept congratulations, by the way.
For those who don't know why this is a big deal, NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) is a mandatory one year program in Nigeria where university graduates get posted to a different parts of the country to serve, mostly somewhere unfamiliar, before they start off their careers. It is meant to be about building unity amd giving back to the society.
The past year pulled me into service in ways I really didn't expect. New places, new routines, new versions of myself I had to figure out on the go. There were early mornings I complained about, camp experiences that tested my patience, and moments that stretched me in ways I'm still unpacking. But somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, I found a rhythm. I found people.
I met some truly beautiful souls along the way, people who became friends I didn't see coming, people who made a strange new place feel like somewhere I belonged, even if just for a year. We laughed through the hard days, showed up for each other, and built memories I know I'll carry for a long time.
I can't wait to share more stories from that year here soon. The people, the moments, the little lessons tucked into ordinary days. Some of it will probably show up in the fiction I write, because a year like that has a way of sneaking into your imagination whether you plan for it or not. Other parts I'll just tell plainly, because some stories don't need dressing up to matter.
If you followed me back then, thank you for sticking around all this while. Genuinely, it means something to know this little space wasn't completely forgotten.
If you're new here, hi! I write fiction, along with pieces about everyday life, how I'm feeling, and how I believe people like us, ordinary people doing ordinary things, can help make things a little better around us, one small act, one honest post, one shared story at a time.
I'm not entirely sure what shape this next chapter of writing will take yet, but I know I want to keep showing up here. Consistently, honestly, and with a lot more glee than I've shown up with in the past two years combined.
More soon. And thank you, truly, for being here for it.
