This is Pedro when he sees my car. He doesn’t mind cars as such, doesn’t bark at them nor does he chase them. He is however deeply convinced that living creatures should use they own legs to move around. Trains can be tolerated but getting on a car is always a small drama.
First, I have to trick him the night before into swallowing a pill. A piece of cheese wrapped around the pill works well. When we travel, I need all my willpower (and muscle power) to convince him to jump in.
Yesterday was my “Dad Sunday” - serving at my father’s church. I took Pedro with me, as otherwise he would have been alone all day. Treats from my Dad were a consolation for the evil necessity of travelling in a car. And mind - Pedro's owner had provided a really cool dog's mat for cars - both safe and comfy.
In the evening, after a day spent mostly sitting, I decided we both needed a walk. So I drove near a park in my town and off we went. It was very pleasant in the cool evening. When we got back to my car, Pedro’s whole body was saying “No way I am getting into the car again”. Then an idea occurred to me. I said - “you want to walk home? Fine, walk you will”. We were 5km away from home. Normally a walk for Pedro is an opportunity to sniff everything around. But this time I shortened the leash and forced my way of walking. After a bit of a struggle, Pedro consented.
I thought I would do some extra steps that might be handy in @poliac competition. So we walked home and then I left Pedro with food and water and... walked back alone to collect my car.
