Pedro, my hiking buddy's dog, is staying at my place while his owner is out on a long trail. After two days, I can say that we have already developed a routine. Our morning walk takes us to nearby forest. It's small (about 1 hour to walk around it), but a lovely place, considering I live in a conurbation with 2,5M inhabitants.
There’s the forester’s house and near it there’s a fenced area with roe deer. It's not a mini-ZOO, I guess the forester takes orphaned deer, feeds them and then sets free in a bigger forest.
Pedro always takes interest in wild animals. Normally the hunter instinct kicks in. But with the roe deer behind a fence, he didn’t react in his way - no barking, no pulling on the leash. He simply observed the herd with curiosity. I think he knows they are behind a fence. Interestingly, the deer where not afraid of Pedro either. They looked at us with matching curiosity.
