I just read a post and some comments of some fellow steemians who sustain the idea that blogging is probably on the way out. I think there's merit to that idea, but I'm not so sure I completely agree. In other words, there's no doubt the STEEM blockchain has moved in a different direction, but it has not truly forsaken it's initial application just yet.
I think it's probably reasonable to think tha Steemit.com, the website most people use, will not always be that relevant. We've seen plenty of competitors show up to the party in little over a year, with some of them offering a massive upgrade from the flagship Steemit we all grew to love, but does this mean we are witnessing the end? Could it be that we are witnessing evolution instead?
I guess that's my point here, I don't think necessarily that blogging is going to go away, at least not one hundred percent. I for one, enjoy writing a lot more than I do anything else, and even though I'm not shy with a camera, for example, there's literally nothing like blogging for writing down all the ideas that crowd my mind. Of course, this does not mean that blogs will continue to dominate this blockchain, and those of us who enjoy writing are probably going to become the minority in a not so distant future.
I mean, it's not hard to imagine different dapps being built on this blockchain that have absolutely nothing to do with blogs. We already have a few examples, but we've not seen the magnitude of adoption that would overtake everything else just yet.
I will make a "prediction" if you will. If there's one type of application or dapp to be more accurate that will probably take the throne, it will probably be the one that can truly take over youtube. Of course, we have dtube at the moment, and for all it's amazing features, there's still some hurdles it must overcome. To be clear, I'm not saying that dtube won't be the victo here, that is quite possible, I'm simply stating that video is king.
In conclusion, to answer my little self imposed question. Is blogging dead? I don't think it will ever truly die, it will just adapt, evolve. Some bloggers will adapt and recognize the shift, some will lag behind and declare blogging dead. As with many things it's about perspective, nothing more, nothing less.
