Sometimes nature appears when we least expect it. This observation happened in the middle of the night, right inside my own home.
I got up to drink some water and, when I turned on the light in the living room, I noticed a spider. I immediately grabbed my phone to photograph it, curious to take a closer look at this unexpected visitor.
As I began taking pictures, the spider suddenly jumped and moved upward, suspended from its silk thread. That unexpected movement gave me the opportunity to photograph it while it was hanging in the air, creating some of the most interesting images of the encounter.
I still have not been able to identify the spider to species level, so I recorded the observation on iNaturalist as an unidentified spider. For me, this is also part of the value of documenting these encounters: sometimes we do not know exactly what we have found, but photographs and observations can help others identify it later.
It was a very ordinary moment—getting up for a glass of water—but it turned into another small reminder that wildlife can be much closer to us than we usually notice.

A veces la naturaleza aparece cuando menos lo esperamos. Esta observación ocurrió en plena noche, dentro de mi propia casa.
Me levanté para tomar agua y, cuando encendí la luz de la sala, descubrí una araña. Inmediatamente tomé mi teléfono para fotografiarla, con curiosidad por observar más de cerca a esta visitante inesperada.
Mientras comenzaba a tomar las fotografías, la araña dio un salto y se elevó, quedando suspendida de su hilo de seda. Ese movimiento inesperado me permitió fotografiarla mientras permanecía en el aire, creando algunas de las imágenes más interesantes de este encuentro.
Todavía no he podido identificar la araña hasta el nivel de especie, por lo que registré la observación en iNaturalist como una araña no identificada. Para mí, ese también es uno de los valores de documentar estos encuentros: a veces no sabemos exactamente qué hemos encontrado, pero las fotografías y la observación pueden ayudar a que alguien más consiga identificarla posteriormente.
Fue un momento completamente cotidiano: levantarme para tomar un vaso de agua. Sin embargo, terminó convirtiéndose en otro pequeño recordatorio de que la vida silvestre puede estar mucho más cerca de nosotros de lo que normalmente percibimos.
