Against all odds, I had a productive day.
I say against all odds because the morning began with absolute chaos. The sun had not even come out completely when the wind began blowing as if we owed it money.
It's not entirely a secret that my wife and I are living in a half-constructed house. A project that we've been slowly chipping away at for over a decade. As you might imagine, this means that we are not exactly well equipped to deal with crazy weather, and yet that is precisely what we've been doing for years at this point.
Yes, this part is also not entirely a secret. Although it's this year that we are finally getting slammed by the "El Niño," we've had to learn how to work through numerous floods and power outages. It's just how the cookie crumbles, how one lives when one lives in a country like Ecuador.
But to be fair, this is not entirely unique to Ecuador. It might be the common experience of South American life, but I digress.
The point I began to make is that I'm learning to find the windows, the opportunities to get stuff done. Even if it's raining sideways, and the whole house feels wet. Yes, including the bed.
We were shown some mercy. The sun came out, things began to dry, and that just meant I had a few hours to get some work done. Thankfully, my work is well aware of what is going on, and it's understanding if I'm not online "when I should."
You could say I'm being forced, by nature at that, to slow down a bit. There's not a whole lot I can do but roll with the punches.
But dealing with this crazy weather, funnily enough, is making me appreciate the sunny times a lot more.
As if it's not only solar rays hitting my skin, but a little hope too.
