These strawberries were freshly picked this morning and I have been happily feasting on them as I sliced and got them ready to go into the freezer
Nothing smells more like summertime to me than strawberries! There are many local strawberry growers around here, and most of them offer 'pick your own' berries as well ones that have been picked by enterprising youngsters. Strawberry picking is often a first job for local kids.

As a child I went with my mom and grandmother to the strawberry fields early in the morning, before the sun got too hot, to pick the years supply of berries for the freezer.
The berries are sweet and juicy. They are so unlike the ones that I am able to buy in the grocery store that are often hard and dry compared to these
I'm happy knowing that I have these in the freezer to enjoy whenever I get hungry for a taste of summertime!
