There are about three dozen species of sparrows in North America. The most common one, the house sparrow, is a non-native Old World Sparrow that was introduced in North America in the 1851.

House sparrows have been known to live up to 15 years

Although they are common all around the world, this is the first time I have seen them here in the woods. They were so unexpected that it took me a few minutes to identify them.
