Raar!! It's beer day! I firmly believe that every day should be beer day, I can't stress this enough. When I rule the world I will make it a law. We will hunt down the non-be-beer'ers!
It's single digits until Christmas. And if that's not a good reason to get half trollied then I don't know what is
This week we have a right pair of cheeky nubbins. A new one from Innis & Gunn and yet another Christmas beer, will I ever learn? The track record of Christmas Beers has been quite dismal so far.
From the mighty Pistonhead Brewery we have this. A little cheeky 5.6% dark beer.
Lol at the colour of this fine young thing. I love a good darkness, it hints of fine things to come.
It's like a coal miners bathwater. In a good way!
It is very bitter, quite deeply malty and has lots of burnt caramel notes. I find myself quite liking it. A little sweet treacle in each mouthful.. It's very moreish. The bitterness is one that lingers and it is a blackened burnt bitterness. It might not be to everyone taste but it's right up my street. 7.5/10
Hurrah! What's next?
Innis & Gunn brew great beers so I was excited to see one I haven't tried before. Seeing as Innis & Gunn's speciality are beers finished in various rums/whisky barrels it feels a little odd to be trying a straight up beer. This one is 5.6 in strength too. Spooky!
Would you look at that, it is as if the sun has popped into my house for a beer! Such bright goodness. I half worry that Travolta and Jackson might come in and menace me with guns! Better glug it, fast!
The head disappears almost instantly. In fact the beer loses all its carbonation really quickly which isn't great. It is an IPA plain and simple. I mean that it is nice, it is a little dry and a little bitter. There are some tart hops in the tasting but it doesn't have anything special that I&G normally have. Still, I'm enjoying it. 7/10.
Well. No astonishing punch you up the drawers beers this week but some solid good ones for the drinking. Now please excuse me whilst I go and investigate the case of the missing beer.
Have a good weekend!
Cheers!
