What I see
I see a boy wiping his tears from his eyes.
what I feel about the picture
I feel the young man there, had received a good news that makes him break into tears of joy.
story behind the picture
Job hunting, the hunting have been a tough one for Joel who had been hunting for it for the past three years without any success. Joel a graduate of economy have been writing application letters to different companies and ministries for the past three years since his graduation from the university. But luck seems not to be by his side. " you are a fine young man, with a good result, but you came too late, we hired someone just yesterday" one manager said. " we need a person with 10 years experience" another director of personnel told him in one occasion. It was one excuse to another at the several places he dropped his application letters.
In his three years of job hunting, he had dropped 3,200 application letters with different companies and ministries. He was a resilient applicant. Despite his many failed attempt to gain employment, he never stop going for an interview when called upon.
It was by 5:am Tuesday morning that his phone rang. " good morning Mr joel" the man at the other end of the phone greeted.
" Morning sir" Joel answered the greeting.
"Am Mr Hassan, the director of personnel with central bank of Nigeria, I saw your application letter in my desk, you are required to come for an interview in the bank today by 10:am and come along with your credentials" the man said with a stern voice.
" OK sir" he replied. Even though he was skeptical whether to go or not. He had receive plenty of similar calls and messages, yet no positive result came out of it. However, to get employment in the central bank, you must have plenty and strong connection, and I have none, he thought.
After many thought, he decided to go give it a trial.
Typical of August rain was the rain that morning, the rain had been heavy that night, but now it was just dropping when Joel step out heading to the bank. Come in, a voice from the office of the director of personnel echoed out when Joel had knocked at his office door. He open the door and step into the office. "good morning sir" Joel greeted a barred head man, who was Seated in a well furnished Cushion. "have your sit" the man said without raising his head to see who was talking to him, but his eyes were focussed on the laptop in front of him. Joe sat down on the chair directly opposite the man.
There was 45 second of silence, during which Joel was busy looking at the pictures that were hanged on the wall. The picture of the president was conspicuously hanged on the wall, the picture of the governor general of the central bank and a family picture of the man, his wife and two beautiful kids were hanged on the right side of the wall. Joel sat, expecting the man to give him attention before he could start talking. " How can I help you Mr man" the man said without raising his head to see who was seated. " am Joel, I received a call this morning for an interview From this office sir" Joel said confidently. It was after Joel had called his name that the man raised his head to see who was sitting and latter gave him the attention. " I have gone through your application letter and C.V, did you graduate from obafemi awolowo university? " the man asked. " yes sir" Joel answered. " from the department of economics?" the man asked again. " yes sir" Joel replied. " am an alumni of that university and from the same economic department. Is Dr adeyanju still lecturing in that school?" the man asked again. " yes sir, even though he is now a prof and the head of economic department." Joel answered, sounding more relaxed. The man continue asking one question to another, it was like he was having a memory of the school when he started chatting with Joel.
I have seen your credentials, and the Discipline I now of obafemi awolowo university with, I think you are the right candidate for this job. The man, pull out the drawer and brought out a paper. "what is your full name?" the man asked. Am Joel alabi" Joel said. The man wrote down the name in the paper and handed him the paper. " that is your appointment letter, you can start work tomorrow." the man said. Joel was speechless and tears dropped down his cheeks. " thank you" he said in a faint voice as the cry of joy could not make the words comes out clear.
The above picture was captured when he step outside the office, and trying to clean the tears of joy from his cheeks.
