It was late in the night, when many have exhausted out their daily activities; people were already asleep when I heard some voices crying and shouting in our neighborhood.
It was a fire outbreak that wasn鈥檛 prepared for by anyone, neither anticipated by anyone. The cause of the fire outbreak is still a mystery to the community, but such incidents is common at this time of the year considering the season that we鈥檙e into.
It targeted a building that is still under construction 馃毀, lots of materials and properties were expected to be in there. Meanwhile, the owner of the building doesn鈥檛 live close by.
I was awoken from the voice of community members who came out in mass to save their properties, children and farm lands.
We couldn鈥檛 make it to the site on time because we鈥檙e not notified on time.
People were busy trying to contact the state fire service commission and water cooperation which every effort that night proved abortive. When I saw what was happening, and the damage that would be incurred if nothing serious is done to salvage the ugly situation, I turned my water tanker to do the work of a fire 馃敟 engine 馃殥
A horrible scene
The fire was so devastating that people became very afraid 馃槺, the height and smoke where raised up to the sky with black tick smoke, and the brightness of the site was as if the sun has fallen down on us.
Luckily enough, we had water in my water tanker which were supposed to deliver to customers in the next morning. I drove off to the site without further delay. I also called on some of community members that are living close to my place to join me for the fight. My foreman was very helpful too. I also, was encouraged greatly from the involvement of the community members who joined in the fight.
Eventually, after few hours, we鈥檙e able to stop the fire.
Indeed, we risked our businesses and lives, but to me, it doesn鈥檛 matter those little loss of materials, water, fuel, diesel and everything we contributed; what maters to me always is that humanity; I mean others are being preferred first before material things. No life was lost at the end, many properties were saved, and others were lost 馃槥
Our tanker is voluminous that it was enough to contend the fire problem. I hope that our villagers and community members wouldn鈥檛 forget this event in a hurry. Many people who witnessed the night incident may eventually see us during the day times and recall.
Till the time of writing, I鈥檝e not seen other fellow fighters that fought the fire with me, I believe they鈥檙e weak and resting in their houses. For me, I only sustained minor scratches here and there, apart from my manager/foreman who incurred a dislocation on his right arm. David my friend was also affected from the aggressive heat from the dungeon. It was my first experience of fighting such fire outbreak. We were affected by the heat because we鈥檙e not fully prepared, neither did we possess the tools needed for such tasks.
